    2. What would be an alternate form for वध्यः?

    The कृदन्त-प्रातिपदिकम् “घात्य” is derived from √हन् (हनँ हिंसागत्योः २. २) as follows:
    हन् + ण्यत् । By 3-1-124 ऋहलोर्ण्यत्‌ – The affix ण्यत् may be used following any verbal root which either ends in a ऋ-वर्णः (ऋकारः or ॠकारः) or in a consonant.

    3. In 1-3 (third quarter of Chapter One) of the अष्टाध्यायी, can you find a वार्तिकम् which justifies the use of आत्मनेपदम् in the form निरस्यत?
    Answer: The use of आत्मनेपदम् in the form निरस्यत can be justified by the वार्तिकम् (in the महाभाष्यम् under 1-3-29 समो गम्यृच्छिप्रच्छिस्वरत्यर्तिश्रुविदिभ्यः) ‘उपसर्गादस्यत्यूह्योर्वा वचनम्’ – When preceded by a उपसर्गः, the verbal root √अस् (असुँ क्षेपणे ४. १०६) and √ऊह् (ऊहँ वितर्के १. ७३५) takes a आत्मनेपदम् affix optionally.

    4. Why is निरस्यत a आर्षप्रयोगः?
Answer: The grammatically correct form is निरास्यत।

    निरास्यत is derived from √अस् (असुँ क्षेपणे ४. १०६). The विवक्षा is लँङ्, कर्तरि प्रयोग:, प्रथम-पुरुषः, एकवचनम्।

Note: In the form निरस्यत, the सूत्रम् 6-4-72 आडजादीनाम् has not been honored.

    “निर्/निस्” is the उपसर्गः (ref. 1-4-59 उपसर्गाः क्रियायोगे, 1-4-80 ते प्राग्धातोः।)
    निर्/निस् + सारयत = निर्/निरुँ + सारयत । By 8-2-66 ससजुषो रुः।

    Easy Questions:

    1. Which अव्ययम् in the verses has been translated to “at once”?
Answer: The अव्ययम् “आशु” has been translated to “at once.”

    2. Where has the सूत्रम् 6-1-125 प्लुतप्रगृह्या अचि नित्यम् been used in the commentary?
    Answer: The सूत्रम् 6-1-125 प्लुतप्रगृह्या अचि नित्यम् has been used to stop the सन्धि-कार्यम् (6-1-78 एचोऽयवायावः) between कषायीभूते and आताम्रे।
The एकारः at the end of कषायीभूते (नपुंसकलिङ्गे प्रथमा-द्विवचनम्) gets the प्रगृह्य-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-1-11 ईदूदेद् द्विवचनं प्रगृह्यम्। Now as per 6-1-125 प्लुतप्रगृह्या अचि नित्यम् – Terms which are designated as “प्रगृह्य” retain their natural state when followed by a vowel.
