यस्मिन् mLs

Namaste,

Today we will look at the formation of यस्मिन् used in the श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता 6.22
यं लब्ध्वा चापरं लाभं मन्यते नाधिकं ततः।
यस्मिन् स्थितो न दुःखेन गुरुणापि विचाल्यते॥

यद् gets सर्वनामसंज्ञा as it is listed in 1-1-27 सर्वादीनि सर्वनामानि. It also gets प्रातिपदिकसंज्ञा by 1-2-45 अर्थवदधातुरप्रत्‍ययः प्रातिपदिकम्

The विवक्षा here is सप्तमी विभक्तिः एकवचनम् so the derivation begins with

(1) यद् + ङि

(2) य अ + ङि । 7-2-102 त्यदादीनामः mandates अ as आदेशः to यद् when विभक्तिः follows

(3) य + ङि । 6-1-97 अतो गुणे gives पररूपम् as एकादेशः

(4) यस्मिन् । 7-1-15 ङसिङ्योः स्मात्स्मिनौ replaces ङि with स्मिन्

Questions:

1. In step (2) the word विभक्तिः is used. Which rule defines it?

2. Where else does the word यस्मिन् come in the गीता?

3. In this श्लोक: there is another word which comes from the प्रातिपदिकम् “यद्” – which one is that? What is the विभक्ति:/वचनम्/लिङ्गम्?

4. How many places is 6-1-101 अकः सवर्णे दीर्घः used in this श्लोक:?

5. The वृत्ति: for the rule 7-1-15 ङसिङ्योः स्मात्स्मिनौ reads “अतः सर्वनाम्न एतयोरेतौ स्तः।” From which rule(s) did we get the terms “अत:” and “सर्वनाम्न:” as अनुवृत्ति:?

6. In the word गुरुणा which rule was used to bring in the substitution “ना” in place of the प्रत्यय: टा? Which rule was used to change the न् to ण्?

7. Why didn’t the ending न् of स्मिन् become an इत् letter by 1-3-3 हलन्त्यम्?

8. “मित्रवद् आगम:, शत्रुवद् आदेश:” – Please explain this statement.
