Today we will look at the प्रथमा एकवचनं रूपम् ज्ञानम् from BG10-38

दण्डो दमयतामस्मि नीतिरस्मि जिगीषताम्‌ |
मौनं चैवास्मि गुह्यानां ज्ञानं ज्ञानवतामहम्‌ || 10-38||

(1) ज्ञान + सुँ – The सुँप्-प्रत्ययाः are ordained by 4-1-2 स्वौजसमौट्छस्टाभ्याम्भिस्ङेभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसिभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसोसाम्ङ्योस्सुप्‌ । and सुँ is the appropriate प्रत्ययः for प्रथमा एकवचनं रूपम्.

(2) ज्ञान + अम् – 7-1-24 अतोऽम् । सुँ gets the अम्-आदेशः

(3) ज्ञानम् – Final form obtained by 6-1-107 अमि पूर्वः ।

Questions:

1. Which is the other word in the श्लोकः that is declined like ज्ञानम्?

2. The न्यास: commentary on 7-1-24 अतोऽम् । says “पूर्वेण प्राप्तस्य लुकोऽयमपवादः।” Please explain what this statement means.

3. The पदच्छेद: of 7-1-24 अतोऽम् । can be done as अत: अम् or we can take the सूत्रम् as 7-1-24 अतोम् । and then the पदच्छेद: would be अत: म् If the take the latter interpretation (which is not supported in the महाभाष्यम्), then at step 2 we would have had ज्ञान + म्. At this stage which सूत्रम् (that we have studied) would become applicable? (काशिका says “मकारः कस्मान् न क्रियते? दीर्घत्वं प्राप्नोति।”)

4. The वृत्ति: for 6-1-107 अमि पूर्वः । says “अकोऽम्यचि पूर्वरूपमेकादेशः।” From which सूत्रम् do we get the term “एकादेश:”?
