स्वसा fNs

जानीषे त्वं जनस्थानं भ्राता यत्र खरो मम |
दूषणश्च महाबाहुः स्वसा शूर्पणखा च मे || — रामायणम् – 3.36.2

Today we will derive the word स्वसा in the above verse.
विवक्षा here is प्रथमा एकवचनम्

We start with the ऋकारान्त-स्त्रीलिङ्ग-प्रातिपदिकम् “स्वसृ”

1.  स्वसृ + सुँ The term “स्वसृ” gets the प्रातिपदिक-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-2-45 अर्थवदधातुरप्रत्ययः प्रातिपदिकम्
The सुँ-प्रत्ययाः are ordained by 4-1-2 स्वौजसमौट्छस्टाभ्याम्भिस्ङेभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसिभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसोसाम्ङ्योस्सुप्‌ ।
We get सुँ because we are deriving he प्रथमा एकवचनम् .
2. स्वसृ + स्   The उँ in सुँ gets इत्-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-3-2 उपदेशेऽजनुनासिक इत् and gets elided by 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः
3. स्वस् + अन् + स्  –by अनँङ्-आदेश: by 7-1-94 ऋदुशनस्पुरुदंसोऽनेहसां च ।
The अकार: gets इत्-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-3-2 उपदेशेऽजनुनासिक इत् and ङ् gets इत् सञ्ज्ञा by 1-3-3 हलन्त्यम् and both are elided by 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः
The आदेश: अन् is placed according to 1-1-53 ङिच्च
4. स्वसान् + स्  The उपधा-दीर्घ: (elongation of the penultimate letter) is mandated by 6-4-11 अप्तृन्तृच्स्वसृनप्तृनेष्टृत्वष्टृक्षत्तृहोतृपोतृप्रशास्तॄणाम्
5. स्वसान् + स्  = स्वसान् by 6-1-68 हल्ङ्याब्भ्यो दीर्घात्‌ सुतिस्यपृक्तं हल्
6. स्वसान् gets पद-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-4-14 सुप्तिङन्तं पदम् and 8-2-7 नलोपः प्रातिपदिकान्तस्य allows us to drop the ending नकार:
7.  स्वसा

Questions:

1. In step 1 why was  4-1-5 ऋन्नेभ्यो ङीप्‌ not applied?
2. Many relationship words in English mimic the Sanskrit terms.  Please give the Sanskrit words (प्रातिपदिकम् and प्रथमा विभक्ति:) for the following – a) Mother  b) Parents (dual)   c) Son  d) Daughter  e) Brother  f) Sister
3.  Could we have used 8-2-23 संयोगान्तस्य लोपः instead of 6-1-68 हल्ङ्याब्भ्यो दीर्घात्‌ सुतिस्यपृक्तं हल् in step 5?
4.  Where does पाणिनि: define the term “अपृक्त”?
5. The द्वितीया एकवचनम् of the प्रातिपदिकम् “स्वसृ” is स्वसारम् while that of “मातृ” is मातरम् (as in वन्दे मातरम्).  Which सूत्रम् causes the difference?
6.  The समास: “महाबाहु” (that occurs in this verse) is used in the गीता most of the time to refer to अर्जुन:  Can you spot a place where it is used to refer to श्रीकृष्ण:?
7. Where does the word उशना come in the गीता? The प्रातिपदिकम् is उशनस् . Can you derive the प्रथमा एकवचनम् उशना using the rules that we used in this example? (Meaning of उशना is शुक्राचार्य:)
