Today we will look at the form मात्रे from श्रीमद्भागवतम् SB 3-24-40

मात्रे आध्यात्मिकीं विद्यां शमनीं सर्वकर्मणाम् ।
वितरिष्ये यया चासौ भयं चातितरिष्यति ।। ३-२४-४० ।।

Gita Press translation “To My mother (Devahūti) as well I shall impart that spiritual Knowledge, which frees one from the bondage of all actions and by virtue of which she will get over the fear of transmigration (and attain supreme joy.) ”

‘मातृ’ gets प्रातिपदिकसंज्ञा by 1-2-45 अर्थवदधातुरप्रत्ययः प्रातिपदिकम्. The विवक्षा here is चतुर्थी-एकवचनम्. 4-1-2 स्वौजसमौट्छष्टाभ्याम्भिस्ङेभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसिँभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसोसाम्ङ्योस्सुप् mandates the प्रत्ययाः सुँ, औ, जस् etc. after the प्रातिपदिकम् ‘मातृ‘.

(2) मातृ + ए । अनुबन्ध-लोपः by 1-3-8 लशक्वतद्धिते and 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः.

    Gita Chapter 11 verse 37 ब्रह्मणोऽप्यादिकर्त्रे = ब्रह्मणः अपि आदि-कर्त्रे

    ऋकारान्त-प्रातिपदिकम् is ‘आदिकर्तृ’; आदिकर्त्रे is चतुर्थी-एकवचनम्

    2. Which सन्धि-कार्यम् has not been done in this verse?

    Between मात्रे आध्यात्मिकीं, 6-1-78 एचोऽयवायावः followed by 8-3-19 लोपः शाकल्यस्य should have applied, looks like to preserve the meter सन्धि-कार्यम् has not been done.
    Some editions have the reading मात्रे चाध्यात्मिकीं – where there is no issue with सन्धि: . The words “as well” in the Gita Press translation suggest that they may have used this second reading.

    3. Where is the सूत्रम् 7-3-105 आङि चापः used in this verse?
    The सूत्रम् 7-3-105 आङि चापः is used in the form यया (सर्वनाम-प्रातिपदिकम् ‘यद्’, स्त्रीलिङ्गे तृतीया-एकवचनम्)।

    यद् + टा । By 4-1-2 स्वौजसमौट्छस्टाभ्याम्भिस्ङेभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसिभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसोसाम्ङ्योस्सुप्‌। ‘यद्’ has the सर्वनाम-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-1-27 सर्वादीनि सर्वनामानि।
    = यद् + आ । अनुबन्ध-लोप: by ‌1-3-7 चुटू, 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः।
    = य अ + आ । By 7-2-102 त्यदादीनामः, 1-1-52 अलोऽन्त्यस्य।
    = य + आ । By 6-1-97 अतो गुणे।
    = य टाप् + आ । By 4-1-4 अजाद्यतष्टाप्‌।
    = य आ + आ । अनुबन्ध-लोप: by ‌1-3-7 चुटू , 1-3-3 हलन्त्यम् and 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः।
    = या + आ । By 6-1-101 अकः सवर्णे दीर्घः।
    = ये + आ । By 7-3-105 आङि चापः – ‘आप्’ ending bases get the letter ‘ए’ as the substitute when followed by the affix ‘आङ्’ (‘टा’) or ‘ओस्’।
    = यया । By 6-1-78 एचोऽयवायावः।

    7-1-13 ङेर्यः did not apply because ‘मातृ’ is not an अदन्तम् अङ्गम् . (The अनुवृत्ति: of “अत:” is coming into 7-1-13 from 7-1-9 अतो भिस ऐस् ।)

    Another “संहितायाम्” अधिकार: runs from 8-2-108 तयोर्य्वावचि संहितायाम् । to the end of the अष्टाधयायी। Rules such as 8-3-15 खरवसानयोर्विसर्जनीयः come in this अधिकार:। This अधिकार: is contained within the “8-2-1 पूर्वत्रासिद्धम्” अधिकार: which also runs to the end of the अष्टाधयायी।

    There is a third संहितायाम्-अधिकारः that goes from 6-3-114 संहितायाम् to 6-3-135 द्व्यचोऽतस्तिङः। We have not touched on this one yet.

    Because there is no हल् following. (A पदान्त-मकार: does not become अनुस्वार: when there is an अच् following or when it is at the end of a sentence (अवसानम्) )
