वृत्तिः इषेर्भावे शो यगभावश्च निपात्यते । ‘इच्छा’ is given as a ready-made form (implying the application of the affix ‘श’ and the irregular absence of the affix ‘यक्’) – derived from the verbal root √इष् (इषुँ इच्छायाम् ६. ७८) – to denote in the feminine gender the sense of the verbal root as having attained to a completed state.

उदाहरणम् – एषणमिच्छा ।

इष् + श Note: 3-1-67 is not applied here because if we did we would not get the desired form ‘इच्छा’।
= इष् + अ 1-3-8, 1-3-9
= इछ् + अ 7-3-77
= इ तुँक् छ् + अ 6-1-73, 1-1-46
= इ त् छ् + अ 1-3-2, 1-3-3, 1-3-9
= इच्छ 8-4-40
= इच्छ + टाप् 4-1-4
= इच्छ + आ 1-3-3, 1-3-7, 1-3-9
= इच्छा 6-1-101. ‘इच्छा’ gets the प्रातिपदिक-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-2-46.

The form ‘इच्छा’ is only used भावे। If we want to derive a form in the sense of 3-3-19 अकर्तरि च कारके संज्ञायाम् we have to use the default affix क्तिन् following the verbal root √इष् (इषुँ इच्छायाम् ६. ७८). For example – इष्यतेऽनयेति इष्टि:।

वार्तिकम् (under 3-3-101 इच्छा) परिचर्यापरिसर्यामृगयाटाट्यानामुपसङ्ख्यानम्।

शो यक् च निपात्यते । ‘परिचर्या’, ‘परिसर्या’, ‘मृगया’ and ‘अटाट्या’ are given as a ready-made forms (implying the application of the affix ‘श’ and ‘यक्’) to denote in the feminine gender either (i) the sense of the verbal root as having attained to a completed state or (ii) any कारक: except the agent of the action, provided the word so derived is a proper name.

उदाहरणम् – परिचरणं परिचर्या (e.g. गीता 18-44) derived from the verbal root √चर् (चरँ गत्यर्थ: | भक्षणे च १. ६४०) with the उपसर्ग: ‘परि’।

परि चर् + श Note: The affix ‘श’ is implied in the ready-form ‘परिचर्या’ given by the above वार्तिकम्। Note: The affix ‘श’ has the सार्वधातुक-सञ्ज्ञा by 3-4-113. This allows 3-1-67 to apply in the next step.
= परि चर् + यक् + श 3-1-67
= परि चर् + य + अ 1-3-3, 1-3-8, 1-3-9
= परि चर् + य 6-1-97
= परिचर्य + टाप् 4-1-4
= परिचर्य + आ 1-3-3, 1-3-7, 1-3-9
= परिचर्या 6-1-101. ‘परिचर्या’ gets the प्रातिपदिक-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-2-46.

उदाहरणम् – मृग्यन्ते पशवोऽस्यामिति मृगया derived from the verbal root √मृग (मृग अन्वेषणे १०. ४४२).

मृग + णिच् 3-1-25
= मृग + इ 1-3-3, 1-3-7, 1-3-9. Note: 6-4-48 should have applied here but it is bypassed in order to get the ready-made form ‘मृगया’ given by the above वार्तिकम्। And then 7-2-115 is not applied because if we did we wouldn’t get the desired form ‘मृगया’। ‘मृग + इ’ gets the धातु-सञ्ज्ञा by 3-1-32.

मृग + इ + यक् + श Note: The affix ‘श’ as well as ‘यक्’ is implied in the ready-form ‘मृगया’ given by the above वार्तिकम्।
= मृग + यक् + श 6-4-51
= मृग + य + अ 1-3-3, 1-3-8, 1-3-9
= मृग + य 6-1-97
= मृगय + टाप् 4-1-4
= मृगय + आ 1-3-3, 1-3-7, 1-3-9
= मृगया 6-1-101. ‘मृगया’ gets the प्रातिपदिक-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-2-46.
