AUM Shree Ganeshay Namah. I prostrate unto lord Ganesha with devotion which is love and the sense of surrender, self-surrender, in order to overcome the obstacles to meditation which are in the form of mental proclivities. Prayer is a training and discipline of the mind, beyond the mind there is no prayer, there is only Being. Shree Gurubhyo NamaH I pay obisance to saints and sages of the world with gratitude for blessing the mankind with the system of yoga. Sthira sukhamasanam. The hands are in mahamudra, stretch the back and lock it in position, sport a smile on the lips, that relaxes the posture and makes the mind cheerful. Meditation should not be a self imposed effort. I love meditation, I practice this auto-suggestion for some time, ' I really like meditation'. Sitting and concentrating on a thing is one kind of meditation but sitting and watching, which is not an action, is nididhyasanam. As you watch the mind becomes quite and then slips into sleepniness, you guard against it, be alert. Watch the eyes, the eyes are lightly closed. As long as you watch the eyes, the mind remains still, you see for yourself. When the mind is quite, I am fully present, see it for yourself. Can you see when the mind is busy thinking, preoccupied with thoughts, you are lost, you are not there, can you see it ? Again watch the eyes. This is the game of the mind, when it is active I am not there, watch the eyes. When the mind is quite, I Am. Stop watching the eyes, just Be. Now watch the mind, mind is nothing but a thought and then one more thought, one more thought, the flow of thought is mind, watch the thoughts. Don't invite or bring in a thought yourself, just watch a parade of thoughts. If a thought goes out, let it, you don't hold on, just watch the thoughts. Try to understand this game of the mind, when you are watchful there are no any thoughts, and when there are thoughts you are not watchful at all. See for yourself, watchfulness makes the mind quite right away, watch the mind. Thinking is an action, thought is an action, watching is not an action, it is the awareful Being. Watch the mind. Think of a pot filled with water, kept aside without disturbing, all the impurities will settle down and the water becomes pure. OK, watch the mind, the mind becomes quite, keep it that way, gradually the mind beomes pure with practice which means it loses its crudeness, its insensetivity and its fickleness, watch the mind. Don't get bored, that is the mind which doesn't like to be watched, not you. Boredom is never you, it is always the mind, watch the mind. Play this game with the mind, cheerful game, watch the mind. Now think of a cat, ready to pounce upon the mouse, if the mouse comes out of a hole, think of it, visualize the cat   ready to pounce only the mouse has to show his head out of the hole. OK. Now watch the mind like that cat, see if a thought rises its head, be the cat, ready, ready for the thought . Thought comes I will pounce upon it, ready, ready. I smile there is no thought, watch the mind. Play this cat and mouse game with the mind whenever you have time, watch the mind. Meditation is the cheerful game of watching, only you don't play the game, you just watch. Now slowly withdraw from the mind, stop watching and just Be. AUM ShantiH ShantiH ShantiH. Relax, sit at ease and relax. Watchfulness is same as samadhana, which is one of the six qualities of the student of Upanishad. Slowly open the eyes.
