Meditation 8 –
ॐ।श्रीगणेशायनमः।I pray to Lord Ganesha, with devotion and sense of surrender, in order to overcome the obstacles to meditation. Surrendering, giving up, emptying oneself is the essence of meditation. We hold on to a thing or two in the beginning like ASANA etc. only to give up eventually.   श्रीगुरुभ्योनमः॥ I respectfully bow to the saints and sages of the world, who blessed the mankind with the wisdom of Yoga. In doing so, the ABHIMANA, the ‘I know’ feeling, gets surrendered, leading to egoless awareness, leading to awareness without a center and leading to observation without an observer. Observation   without an observer. STHIRA SUKHAM ASANAM. Observe the body; keep it straight, hands in the MAHAMUDRA. Do not mentally resist any extraneous sound. Keep a smile on the lips and observe the body. If you notice the sense of mine, my body or me, that is the observer. Practice observation without the observer. This body. This could be tricky, but you practice it. I am watching the body – no rather, there is watching of the body.   I am starting the body is the starting point, but there is watching of the body is the real watching, uninvolved watching. Observation without an observer. In observation without the observer there is no scope for any desire or insecurity. See for yourself, only when you observe as the observer there is scope for a desire or a fear. Can I observe the body without being an observer ? Explore it. Do not make it a goal, just explore it. Understand that there are no goals, there is only exploration, there is only BRAHMAJIGNYASA,   no BRAHMAJNANAM. Put a question to yourself, ‘can I observe the world without being an observer?’ Don’t answer any question, just leave the question. If you answer it, it becomes wrong. Can I observe the world without being an observer? Come back to the body, let there be observation of the body without an observer, an awareness without a center. JNANEN AAKASHA KALPENA. Observe the breathe. Do not regulate it, just observe it. Do not control it, do not prolong it, just don’t do anything, just observe it. It is possible the mind diagraces, don’t be disturbed by it, just bring back the mind and watch the breathe without controlling the breathe. Do not follow the entire course of the breathe, just watch it at the tip of the nose alone through the subtle sense of touch. Do not judge the breathe, don’t say shallow or any such thing, just observe it. Breathe is neither good nor bad, it is what it is, just watch it. Be alert, don’t fall asleep and watch the breathe. Can I watch the breathe without being a watcher, without the sense of mine and me? Let there be observation without the observer. Stop watching the breathe, you take your time and just Be. AUM SHANTIH SHANTIH SHANTIH. Relax, sit at ease, massage the legs if necessary. Slowly open the eyes.
