Meditation 4 – Silence meditation
ॐ।श्रीगणेशायनमः। I prostrate unto Lord GANESHA with devotion and the sense of surrender, to overcome the obstacles of meditations which are in the form of various mental VASANAS. श्री गुरुभ्यो: नमः I pay my obeisance to saints and sages of the world, who blessed the mankind with the system of yoga. STIRA SUKHAM ASANAM. Visualize the posture, the hands are kept in the lap, palms upward, the right in the left hand but the thumbs touch each other. Stretch the back. Position the hands in the laps such that there is perfect balance in the posture. Sport a smile on the lips, this is the inner smile. You see it when you see DAKSHINAMURTY. MUDITAVADANAM DAKSHINAMURTY MIDE. That inner smile and the silence are the message of DAKSHINAMURTY to us.

Watch the eyes; there should not be any pressure in closing the eyes. Keep them lightly closed. This helps to neutralize the stress that accumulates in the system. Be aware of the surroundings. Watch the silence and peace that pervades the surrounding space. Now look within, watch within yourself you find silence and peace and also look for yourself, what is outside is inside and what is inside is outside. If you pay attention to the conflict outside, you will create a similar conflict within and vice versa. I am aware of the surroundings in which there is peace and silence. Try to listen to the silence, even if you hear an extraneous sound do not label it as disturbance, do not mentally resist it; accept with a smile and focus on the peace and silence all around.

Visualize PRITHIVI, the earth. PRITHIVI SHANTA. The earth is at peace. The woods are ever silent and peaceful. In fact the woods are as though meditating. The mountain peaks are meditating. The entire globe is as though meditating. DHYAYATIVA PRITHIVI. Now look within, I am meditating, means not an action, I am silent. In fact the silence I am. The inner silence I am. The silent being I am. The silent being free from the constant chatter of the mind I am. Realize for yourself, the silent being free from the incessant noise of the mind, I am. I am.

Visualize the ANTARIKSHA, the atmosphere surrounding the globe, filled with VAYU – air. ANTARIKSHAM SHANTAM. The atmosphere is silent and peaceful. Look within, I am silent and peaceful. In fact I am the silence and peace. SHANTO’HAM. I am the peace of the being. SHANTO’HAM. I am.

Visualize the deep space of the planets and the stars, the endless ocean of deep space. It’s a wonder, the deep space. There is a deep silence and peace in the infinite space of the stars. DYAUH SHANTAH. Look within, SHANTO’HAM.

ॐ।शान्तिःशान्तिःशान्तिः॥
Relax, sit at ease. Keep the eyes closed and relax. Do not be distracted right away, remain silent and relax. Slowly open the eyes.
