  1. Questions:
    1. Where is the word “आपः” used in Chapter 2 of the गीता?

    2. Can you spot an आर्ष-प्रयोग: (a word form which is not in accordance with the rules of पाणिनि:) in the verse?
    Answer: अघघ्नीः, प्रातिपदिकम् “अघघ्नी”।
    Here it is used as प्रथमा-बहुवचनम् in समानाधिकरणम् with आपः, गाङ्गाः, पादाम्बुजाश्रयाः।
The सूत्रम् 6-1-105 दीर्घाज्जसि च, has not be honored. The grammatically correct form would be अघघ्न्यः।

    अघघ्नी + जस् । 4-1-2 स्वौजसमौट्छष्टा…
    अघघ्नी + अस् । अनुबन्ध-लोप: by 1-3-7 चुटू, 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः। 1-3-4 न विभक्तौ तुस्माः prevents the ending सकार: from getting the इत्-सञ्ज्ञा।
    अघघ्नीस् । 6-1-102 प्रथमयोः पूर्वसवर्णः has been applied disregarding the निषेध: of 6-1-105 दीर्घाज्जसि च।
    अघघ्नी: । रुँत्व-विसर्गौ 8-2-66 ससजुषो रुः and 8-3-15 खरवसानयोर्विसर्जनीयः।

The grammatically correct form would be derived as follows:

    अघघ्नी + जस् । 4-1-2 स्वौजसमौट्छष्टा…
    अघघ्नी + अस् । अनुबन्ध-लोप: by 1-3-7 चुटू, 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः। 1-3-4 न विभक्तौ तुस्माः prevents the ending सकार: from getting the इत्-सञ्ज्ञा।
    अघघ्न्यस् । 6-1-77 इको यणचि। 6-1-102 प्रथमयोः पूर्वसवर्णः is stopped by 6-1-105 दीर्घाज्जसि च।
    अघघ्न्य: । रुँत्व-विसर्गौ 8-2-66 ससजुषो रुः and 8-3-15 खरवसानयोर्विसर्जनीयः।

    “अघघ्नी: = अघघ्न्य:” is the comment made by श्रीधर-स्वामी।

    3. True or false?
“जस्” is the only सर्वनामस्थान-प्रत्यय: that can come after the प्रातिपदिकम् “अप्”।
    Answer: True – because “अप्” is नित्यं बहुवचनान्त-शब्दः । By 1-1-43 सुँडनपुंसकस्य , “सुँ औ जस् अम् औट् ” are the five सर्वनामस्थान-प्रत्यया: in the masculine or feminine, out of which only “जस्” is बहुवचनम्। Hence “जस्” is the only सर्वनामस्थान-प्रत्यय: that can follow the प्रातिपदिकम् “अप्” ।

    4. Can you spot a प्रातिपदिकम् ending in the शतृँ-प्रत्यय:?
    Answer: संवदतोः। प्रातिपदिकम् “संवदत्” । सप्तमी द्विवचनम्।
    संवदत्+ ओस् = संवदतोः।

    5. Which सूत्रम् was used to replace the ending इकार: of the प्रातिपदिकम् “हरि” by an एकार: in the form “हरे:”?
    Answer: 7-3-111 घेर्ङिति।
    हरि + ङस् । हरि gets the घि-सञ्ज्ञा by 1-4-7 शेषो घ्यसखि ।
    हर् इ + अस् (अनुबन्ध-लोपः by 1-3-8 लशक्वतद्धिते and 1-3-9 तस्य लोपः। The ending सकार: does not get the इत्-सञ्ज्ञा because of the निषेध-सूत्रम् 1-3-4 न विभक्तौ तुस्माः)।
    हर् ए + अस् ( 7-3-111 घेर्ङिति , when a ङित् सुँप् affix follows, then an अङ्गम् having the घि-सञ्ज्ञा takes the गुण: substitution. Note: By 1-1-52 अलोऽन्त्यस्य the गुण: substitution will take place for the ending letter of the अङ्गम् (in this case इ is substituted by ए).
हरेस् ( By 6-1-110 ङसिङसोश्च , in place of a preceding एङ् (ए, ओ) letter and the following अकार: of the affix ङसिँ or ङस्, there is a single substitute of the former (एङ् letter.)
    हरे: ( Applying रुँत्व-विसर्गौ – 8-2-66 ससजुषो रुः and 8-3-15 खरवसानयोर्विसर्जनीयः)

    6. Where has the सूत्रम् 7-3-104 ओसि च been used?
    Answer: तयोः। प्रातिपदिकम् “तद्” । सप्तमी द्विवचनम्।
    तद् + ओस् । 4-1-2 स्वौजसमौट्छष्टा…।
    त अ + ओस् । By 7-2-102 त्यदादीनामः , तद् gets the अकारादेशः । As per 1-1-52 अलोऽन्त्यस्य , only the ending दकार: gets replaced.
    त + ओस् । By 6-1-97 अतो गुणे the अकारः at the end of त and the following अकारादेशः is replaced by अकारः (पररूपम्) as एकादेशः ।
    ते + ओस् । By 7-3-104 ओसि च , the ending अकारःof a प्रातिपदिकम् changes to ए when followed by the affix ओस् ।
    तयोस् । अयादेशः by 6-1-78 एचोऽयवायावः ।
    तयोः । रुँत्व-विसर्गौ 8-2-66 ससजुषो रुः and 8-3-15 खरवसानयोर्विसर्जनीयः ।

    7. How would you say this in Sanskrit?
“Only one question (is) difficult, all the others (are) easy.” Use the adjective प्रातिपदिकम् “सुकर” for “easy” and the adjective प्रातिपदिकम् “दुष्कर” for “difficult.”
    Answer: एकः एव प्रश्नः दुष्करः अन्ये सर्वे सुकराः = एक एव प्रश्नो दुष्करोऽन्ये सर्वे सुकराः।
